My 4 favourite words... "All you can eat"!!

Some exciting eats over the weekend, although I must admit to not getting much photographic evidence (I blame the beer!)

I had a takeaway curry on Friday night (Sag Prawn with rice) round my mate Mike's house. I didn't stay out long, mainly because I had a stag party to attend Saturday afternoon.
It was a bit of a pain to find, but once there I had a great time racing on a mud track in a 600cc buggy and once I got the hang of the clay pigeon shooting I was something of a sharp shooter!

Anyway, the evening part of the stag do consisted of a trip to the New World restaurant in the town centre for some "all-u-can-eat" chinese!! I love all you can eat, but on this occasion - I had to take it steady as I didn't want to fill up on food when there was a night of drinking ahead of me.

I did try a few shots in the New World, including a "Slippery Nipple" (pic left) which consists of baileys and sambuca and also a "Winter Warmer" which is made from whiskey and amoretto. Both shots were very easy to drink.

Unfortunately, my part is the stag do proceedings came to an abrupt halt when the doorman of Oceana nightclub refused to let me enter on the grounds of inappropriate footwear (I was wearing some Timberland boots!) - but I hooked up with some other mates in town and had a good night with them instead.

Sunday I went to the Ship restaurant with my parents and enjoyed a starter of roasted vegetables covered in mozarella inside a filo pastry basket. My main course was a fish medley of shark, tuna and salmon steaks with roasted vegetables. I washed this down with several beers, glasses of wine and finished off with an Irish coffee.

I then hooked up with some mates at the Patchway Sports and Social, for more beers and some live entertainment. All in all, a quality weekend!

Today's canteen had a halloween theme (*sighs*) - I think I had a "Bubbling Cauldron Stew" or something (pic to right).

Pitcher Perfect

Not much happening on the food front at the moment, went straight to the pub after work yesterday and then to Jesters Comedy Club (which was brilliant, will definitely have to do that again). Had to drink from 4-pint pitchers, as the bar shuts during the acts and I didn't want to run out!!

I don't remember getting home, but my mate Mike tells me I shared a cab back with him and got out the taxi at his missus' gaff and walked home from there (not all that far, but still unnecessary). I do know that I left my housekeys at home and couldn't get into my house... so I must have tried sleeping in the garden. But I woke up in my bed, so presumably my housemate (Higz) must have come home and let me in?

Anyway, my lunch today (as ever, on a Friday) was a liquid one - so no gems from the canteen this time.

Oh, and thanks to Mr Beaton for the blog plug!

Hot Day, Hot Pot

The canteen where my office is actually rather nice (for a canteen)... good, cheap food. Every Wednesday is a roast dinner and every Friday is fish (not that I am ever in the canteen on a Friday!). Today's had the option of Beef chilli enchiladas, some kind of salsa chicken stuff and Somerset Sausage Hot Pot (which I had, picture to the left).
After I had wolfed that down, I decided that a few pints of stella were in order... so the rest of my lunch hour was spent up a pub garden (today was the hottest 27/10 since 1888!) with a mate and a few Stellas.

After work tonight I am going to a comedy club for the first time ever, I can't wait - it should be a good laugh!

Sunday's Shenanigans

Last Sunday's smashing roast beef and roasted veg (with horseradish sauce, ground pepper and onion & shallot gravy).

Always a pleasure to eat round the folks, I had my favourite starter of king prawns in seafood sauce and caramel apple pie in custard for dessert.

My parents hospitality didn't end with the food, oh no, I was also able to knock a few glasses of wine down before going to the pub.

I was on-call for my work, so had to stay sober and drive - the pub was OK though, we came second in the pub quiz and stopped at KFC on the way home.

I didn't have anything, but here is a pic of the food4holmz recommended poulty expert Nathan tucking into his KFC family bucket.

Fresh off the spit...

So now my diary of food intake begins in ernest. It is worth noting that, as I get used to this whole concept, the food blog may have a slightly ropey start.

For example, it took a few moments of me getting tucked into this fine chicken before I remember that I should grab a pic before it was just a pile of bones.

Thanks to Nathan, a poultry cooking expert, for recommending Asda's pre-cooked Sage & Onion chicken for my first food blog entry.

A most excellent suggestion, especially when scattered over a bowl of salad with some honey and mustard dressing.

True to form, I did eat the whole chicken in a matter of minutes... but on the whole a meal to remember!

This was Saturday's lunch, there was not much to note before that (Fridays traditionally aren't the most interesting, food-wise, as I mainly concentrate my efforts on drinking as much Stella as I can... and eating's cheating or something).

Sunday, I enjoyed a good old roast dinner from my parents... not your normal roast dinner either - my Mum took the whole roast thing too literally and pretty much everything got roasted... including the veg. Pic to follow.

All this talk of food is making me hungry, despite the fact I have enjoyed a tasty lunch of lamb hotpot, cabbage, green beans + carrots... I ate the thing before grabbing a pic, but alas, this will happen until I get my groove on.

Until next time.... Peace! :)

... and so my journey begins

I am delighted to announce the grand opening of food4holmz - an exclusive look at what goes in (and, of course, excluding what comes out!) the culinary grandmaster, Holmz (me).

OK, Grandmaster is a bold claim... but I think I have earned it over the years. I once won a £50 bet that I couldn't eat a Phal Curry... in 60 mins... without drinking (the ice cold stella that was right in front of me) during the 60 mins or for another 30 mins after. I also believe I had to lick the plate clean.

But that was a bet, now (4 years or so later) - I don't eat crazy stuff for money (if only)... I do it for fun... and, of course, nourishment.

Not all of my meals are crazy, far from it. But this blog is here to document all my meals, with pictures.

So again welcome... and, as the Welsh say, Bon Appetite!
